# What a Website Really Costs a Small Business in 2026 (and What Not Having One Costs More)

Ask five agencies what a website costs and you will get five slide decks, three discovery calls, and one number that makes you close the laptop. So let's do the honest math, option by option, including the option nobody puts a price tag on: not having a website at all.

## Option 1: The traditional agency

A typical small-business site from a local agency runs $3,000 to $10,000 up front, plus maintenance retainers. You get meetings, mood boards, and a timeline measured in months. For a large company that needs deep custom software, that can be worth it. For a restaurant, a roofing crew, or a salon, you are mostly paying for the agency's process, not your website.

## Option 2: Do-it-yourself builders

Squarespace, Wix, and friends cost $20 to $50 a month, which sounds cheap until you price your own weekends. Most owners spend 20 to 40 hours fighting templates, and the result still looks like a template. Builders also get slower as you add plugins, and slow sites lose visitors. The money cost is low; the time cost and the quality ceiling are not.

## Option 3: The freelancer lottery

Somewhere between $500 and $2,500, quality anywhere from excellent to abandoned-mid-project. The problem is not that good freelancers do not exist. It is that you cannot tell in advance, and the downside is a half-finished site and a stopped phone.

## The option nobody prices: staying invisible

Here is the math that matters. Suppose an average customer is worth $150 to you, and just three people a month search for what you do, cannot find you, and call someone else. That is $450 a month walking away, $5,400 a year, silently. You will never see a voicemail from those people. Invisibility does not send invoices, which is exactly why it is the most expensive option on this list.

## What we think it should cost

We built Eclipse Digital Group around a simple idea: every business deserves to be found, and the price should not be the reason one is not. A fully custom-coded website, built by hand in Next.js, costs $299.99 flat. Hosting that keeps it fast, secure, and monitored is $49.99 a month, with the first month free. If you send your request during business hours and we have what we need, your site is live the next day, or half your build fee comes off.

No checkout on our site, nothing due today. We call you, we build it, then we invoice you like humans.

If your business is still invisible, [tell us about it here](/contact). It takes about sixty seconds, which is less time than another customer takes to call your competitor.
